I am an exchange student in Switzerland and I was travelling to Greece for tourism. My bag was stolen at 9am and I reached the Indian embassy at around 10.30am after getting an FIR. The embassy not only helped me to their best possible way but guided me on next steps. Special gratitude to Mr. Pandey. He issued me a handwritten passport in 2 hours so I could take my 3pm flight to Santorini same day. I did not have cash to pay so they proceeded with my application till my friend went to the ATM and got the fees in cash. I cannot thank them enough for their help. Mr. Pandey also gave me his personal contact number to contact him if any airport official stops me from going back to India. Special thanks to Indian embassy in Athens and Mr. Pandey. Thank you.

Prompt help and excellent service! Athens is famous for its pickpockets, and it seems like they target Indians for their passports. My friend and I were pickpocketed at the same time inside the red line metro at Omonia. The thieves created a commotion in the heavily crowded train and somehow managed to pick out pockets even though we were vigilant and aware about such happenings. My wallet containing passport was stolen, while they only picked the passport from my friend's front pocket. We reported to the Tourist Police Station near Panepistimio first. Then we called the embassy number (the number listed as emergency number on the website didn't work, however the contact number listed on Google maps worked). Since we called outside office hours (it was a Saturday), we were told to come to the embassy at 9am on Monday. We were informed that we could travel with an emergency passport which would be issued by Monday afternoon. We were also informed about an internet cafe run by some Sardars 20m away from the embassy, on the right side of the signal, who would help us do the paperwork. On Monday morning, we went to the internet cafe first, prepared the paperwork (including taking photos) and then reported to the embassy. We had to wait atmost 10 minutes before we were called to meet Mr. Krishnanand Jha (Consular). He was a polite Gentleman and sympathised with our situation and told us that the new passports will be ready by 3.30-4pm. Mr. Praveen, who helped us at the counter and collected our paperwork was also very friendly. At 4pm, we were issued handwritten laminated passports valid for a short duration and asked to apply for standard passports getting back to our country of residence. Extremely thankful to Mr. Krishnanand and Mr. Praveen for all their help.

I just called to ask if I can open an extended tourist visa in Greece as a Ukrainian citizen, but as soon as the guy on the phone heard that I am from Ukraine he became instantly rude and told me I can’t come and he personally doesn’t want me to come to India and when I asked why he said that it’s his privilege to not let me come, almost yelling at me. Then he hang up on me saying to not call. I was polite and respectful and only asked a simple question, that person has never met me and I haven’t met him either. The only thing he heard from me is that I am Ukrainian and I want to open an extended tourist visa. I have nothing but respect and love for India and Indian people, but why is a person who yells at people telling them not to come to India because he doesn’t like their nationality working in an indian embassy?
