Propeller Fuels was established in late 2017 as a division and brand of Oil NRG, a leading UK fuels distributor based out of Hartlepool in the Northeast of England. Propeller was created as an amalgamation of very experienced people from the global marine fuels business, and Oil NRG, using a brand synonymous with shipping to differentiate the activity from the inland operations.

The Shareholders behind Oil NRG have a long and deep history in the fuels distribution business going all the way back to coal distribution, prior to oil becoming the main source of fuel. The Peart family have a long association with the bunker industry, both through positions held in leading international bunker suppliers and through their own family owned oil distribution company, F. Peart & Co., which was sold some years ago after close to a century of successful operations.

This company had for many years been the pre-eminent supplier of marine gasoil in the UK Northeast, having had a distribution agency with the main regional refinery at the time, Phillips 66 at Tees-side. Today, having grown significantly both organically and through acquisitions, Oil NRG run a sophisticated distribution operation, served by a large fleet of owned trucks operating from owned depots up and down the length of the UK.

These days, although Oil NRG is still managed by the next generation of the Peart family, it also has another substantial shareholder, Nicholl Fuels of Northern Ireland. The Nicholl family again have a very long association with fuel distribution and are the market leader in Northern Ireland. They also own several other smaller distribution companies in the UK, giving the groups behind Propeller Fuels broad coverage of the entire market by virtue of their extensive networks and substantial owned logistics, something which Propeller benefits greatly from in its supply activities to the marine sector.

In recent years Nicholl Fuels acquired the 170,000 cubic metre Belfast terminal (formerly owned by BP) in a joint venture with Puma. A substantial volume of the products imported through this terminal into Northern Ireland is distributed via Nicholls large owned fleet of trucks and many strategically located depots throughout the region. Additionally they own other independently branded distribution companies which are themselves very active players in the market.

Propeller Fuels, with such strong backing, has been able to establish itself at the forefront of gasoil bunker supply in the UK in a very short space of time. The focus from day one was on operational excellence and a strong service proposition. With this ethos, and supported by experienced staff, strong and supportive shareholders and extensive infrastructure it has carved itself a prominent position in the marketplace. From this position further expansion and growth is planned.
