★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η Μαντώ Μαυρογένους γεννήθηκε το 1796 στην Τεργέστη. Με την έναρξη της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης κατά των Οθωμανώνσου 1821, με δικά της έξοδα και πλοία, πήγε στη Μύκονο και καταδίωξε πειρατές που λυμαίνονταν τις Κυκλάδες. Μάλιστα, συγκρότησε σώμα από συμπατριώτες της που το συντηρούσε η ίδια, ενώ έστειλε και επιστολή προς τις γυναίκες της Γαλλίας ζητώντας συμπαράσταση.
Ο Καποδίστριας την όρισε επίτιμη αντιστράτηγο. Μετά την απελευθέρωση, απογοητευμένη από τη σχέση της με τον Δημήτρη Υψηλάντη, κατέφυγε στη Μύκονο ενδεής και λησμονημένη. Πέθανε στην Πάρο το 1840.
Δημιουργός της προτομής ήταν ο Νικόλαος Κουβαράς (1881-1945).

 Manto Mavrogenous was born in 1796 in Trieste. With the beginning of the Greek Revolution against the Ottomans in 1821, at her own expense and ships, she went to Mykonos and pursued pirates who were ravaging the Cyclades. In fact, she formed a body of her compatriots who maintained it, while she also sent a letter to the women of France asking for support.
Kapodistrias appointed her honorary lieutenant general. After her release, disappointed by her relationship with Dimitris Ypsilantis, she took refuge in Mykonos, poor and forgotten. He died in Paros in 1840.
The creator of the bust was Nikolaos Kouvaras (1881-1945).
