Ο σταθμός εξυπηρετούσε συγκοινωνίες προς Θεσσαλονίκη και Αθήνα και αποτελούσε σημαντικό εναλλακτικό ΜΜΜ μέχρι και τις αρχές του 2000. Κάποτε λειτουργούσε και γραμμή express προς Θεσσαλονίκη και η διαδρομή γύρω από τη λίμνη Βεγορίτιδα ήταν μαγευτική. Δυστυχώς οι συγκοινωνίες πλέον δεν εκτελούνται αν και θα μπορούσε να συνδεθεί ο σταθμός της πόλης με τη γραμμή του Αμυνταίου, όπου και εκτελούνται ορισμένα δρομολόγια .Λόγω των λιγνιτορυχείων η γραμμή προς Κοζάνη δεν υπάρχει πλέον. Ο σταθμός βρίσκεται σε εγκατάλειψη και το μόνο θετικό είναι ο τοποθέτηση βαγονιού μπροστά από αυτόν για λόγους αισθητικής. Από το σημείο αυτό μπορεί κάποιος να δει την εγκαταλελειμμένη μονάδα αζωτούχων λιπασμάτων της ΑΕΒΑΛ. A part of the city from where many excursions and trips started.
