★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A historical square of Chania, with the church of St. Nicolas being a landmark on its eastern side. The monument was founded as a Venetian Catholic church, then it was converted in 1645 by the Ottomans as a sultanic mosque (the two rings of the minaret indicates that) and finally it was converted to a Greek orthodox church in 20th century. The monument kept the minaret and a new bell tower was added in 1940s. An excellent hybrid monument of the city. Below the square there is a fountain well hidden.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must-visit landmark of Chania. A crossroad of civilizations. Many small restaurants preferred by the locals for tasty cretan mezedes. Walk within the maze like streets of the area and get lost in a time travel.
