Some of the best food you can get in Crete. Their wood oven really gives the food the special something. Also some great options for vegetarians. The rooms are clean and have a great view. At night you only hear the ocean. The staff was helpful and always very very friendly. Highly recommended

Pavlos and his brother Costas were the perfect friendly hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely with a great view of the sea only yards from the door. The location is very remote with a long and windy road down the side of the mountain but it is so worth it. Or you can get a boat from Hora Sfakion instead. A lovely place to spend a few days!

This place was the most beautiful place we visited in Crete. Here you are far from any touristic road. It is truly magical atmosphere. If you like snorkeling you will discover the underwater outstanding landscape and a lot of fish. The owners are very friendly and fun, they give you tips and book stuff for you. The restaurant is very traditional and you will enjoy good quality products. If you want to come by car, pay attention to the road, that is a bit scary because it's a mountain road without guardrail. Thus, it's perfectly doable.

We had a wonderful stay at Taverna Akrogiali, the settings were gorgeous and the staff were friendly and helpful. The place is a bit of a trek to reach, especially out of season. As we visited just a few weeks before things properly opened for the season we had to get the Taverna staff to help up book a taxi that would bring us from Chania all the way down the hair-bends and unfinished road to reach them in Lykos bay. However, in season it would have been much easier to reach, with more ferry services along the coast and buses to Chora Sfakion. Rooms were simple but clean and had everything you would need (including air conditioning) with extremely comfortable beds. Our room had recently been refurbished so all furniture was brand new. The breakfasts were excellent, with freshly squeezed orange juice, toast and preserves, yoghurt and eggs. Dinner options were simple but cooked well, with options changing every few days. Particular favourites were the briam (like ratatouille with potatoes), staka (warm melted local cheese) and slow-cooked lamb from the family farm. The taverna is best used as a base for walking along the coast, with the entrance of Aradena gorge a maybe 25 minute walk away round the headland. Also at the entrance is the excellent little Marmara beach, good for swimming and snorkeling. Loutro is about a 15 walk in the other direction and Glyka Nera (Sweetwater) beach about an hour beyond that. Chora Sfakion is also walkable in 2-3 hours. Be aware that all of these walks will need proper shoes and a bit of scrambling at some points. There is still lots in the area that we didn't manage to achieve due to it being out of season so we will definitly be back to Taverna Akrogiali.

When your host takes you into a used room, and begs you to try out the bed for am extra €10, listen. I learned that the hard way, with 3 days of grimacing and anti inflammatories. The place is otherwise lovely, nice views, decent meals (though I prefer the restaurants either side, but this place is definitely worth eating at) and service that smiles so much, I could swear the Cretan sun sparkled off his pearly whites. Pay the extra for the good mattress...both mine were literally broken..but hey, I could have asked for another room. Nice smile though, and helpful as a Sherpa half way to base camp.

Family owned tavern. Pablo's and his brothers run a great hotel and tavern. Location is right on the beach. Water sports, paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling and fishing. It's a great place to stay, visit, drink and eat.

Excellent hotel and location. The communications after our booking were great and the hotel did everything to accommodate. We walked on a very hot day from loutro which is not far but it feels it with backpacks under the sun ?. We were greeted with cold water and our room which waiting for us. We ate at the taverna which was also very nice . Many thanks
