★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The most authentic Cretan restaurant we ate at during our holiday. Located in Kroustas, a village above Kritsa. The friendly waiter guided us through the traditional dishes. We particularly recommend the snails and the goat cooked in wine. The bill was very low given the quality of the food. If you're staying near Agios Nikolaos, getting bored of identikit tourist menus, and have a hire car then I'd recommend you visit this taverna.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You make sure you visit that place and you order those TWO things:
1. "Nerates" - cause its literally the only tavern on this island cooking this traditional pie (you can find it also in some bakeries in Eastern Crete).
2. "Tsigariasto" (baby goat cooked slowly and "finished" with red wine) cause its the best in the island.
Menu is typed in 4 languages (eng, ger, fr and rus) so this should give you a picture of how professional the approach to tourism they have is-despite the "village-amateur" look that the first impression is when you visit this tavern

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely family owned restaurant in a picturesque small town, the food is just like your grand mother did for you, tasty and big portion. The price is much lower than those fancy seafront places with fried fish but much more worth full to take a small tour in this lovely town and make a stop at this restaurant.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Surprisingly good restaurant in the mountains which is a little bit difficult to find but worth it. They have the most traditional crete food of the entire island. Their sheep dishes was be on imagination as well as their escagot. Definitely come back if i have a chance. Highly recommended.

The food is delicious and recommend the dolnades, fried potatoes and lamp chops along with cheese pies.
