★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing and unassuming restaurant. Maria is a great host - so friendly and attentive, has been running the place for 47 years! The food is great value for money and so tasty. It's hard to find good vegetarian options in Crete and the vine leaves / grilled tomatoes and peppers were incredible (and they use local herbs in the rice). The Raki is local and 10/10. The wine is lovely too, honestly cannot fault anything. We keep coming back :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a lovely place. It’s quiet as covid times dictate, but Maria’s lovely place is open and serving up delicious food. The feta pies were amazing but the butter beans were my favourite. With delicious barrel wine and some good stories from Maria, this is a great spot to spend the evening.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Perfect to calm the afternoon hunger after a swim in the sea, very friendly old lady and so delicious meals. Meat balls, greek salad and moussaka are recommendable. Also the wine, beer and raki ;)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place. Low prices and good wine The lady servicing is so nice. We did but have enough cash and there is no possibility of paying with card and she said it's not a problem. Ofcourse I paid her full amount the next day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the closest Tavernas to our hotel, we have eaten here twice and are planning to eat here again (likely for an early dinner before departure). The food has been very tasty, and very reasonably priced too (including the local wine also!).
Do not be put off by the slightly dated setting, this is an informal place that feels in some ways like visiting your grandmother's house (meant in the best way). The family are wonderfully warm and friendly, you know you will be taken care of here.
Our first night in Crete we ate here, sharing a starter and each having a main and dessert. Three 500ml bottles of Mythos, and about five glasses of local white wine, and the bill was just under €50 in May 2022, and the food was lovely.
I highly recommend you give Taverna Stavros a go.
