Do not take it personally if a soldier interrogates you for being there. Having been in the military there in Greece myself, my Lieutenant would shout at us if we stood guard and did not interrogate anyone coming near the base. So we had to scream "ALT!" to every muppet and his dog that drove to our ammunition depot to take selfies with his girlfriend :D Just play along with the soldier and state that you are a friendly tourist. His job is to report back to his seniors. Its is all.... cough.... theatrics :)

It’s not allowed to get near by this theatre when I was there. There are armed military call me stop here. I was driving, then I see a stop sign, I think it’s for car which not allowed so I walk in to it. I’m glad I didn’t drive in, or I will get shoot.

Interesting to see when visiting Gythio but not worth a visit alone. Seems a little neglected.

The theatre looks in reasonable condition and is worth a view over the fence as the soldiers at the army base next door watch you closely. As with the other ancient ruins in Gytheio the gate is closed and you cannot get close to the ruins, which is a shame.

Worth the trip for the theatre alone. Amazingly impressive to see up close. And in regular use. Not too crowded when we went. Children go free.

We have visited this before. We found it is poorly maintained this time. Although they cut the grass in the field in front they failed to cut the TALL weeds along the fence. A shame, as it's really a jewel for the town. You need to park on the street as it's next to a military base. I was too short to get a photo through the weeds on the fence.

This is the ancient theatre of Githio. Abandoned , locked, green that it is almost more than a meter high. No one care about it. So you can’t see the theatre but you can imagine it. Yes it is near by a military camp but no one will say you something, if you don’t take photos of the military camp. Of course if you start the photos.. of course they will have a word with you. It is common sense in all countries that photography and military places are a no go.
