★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The ancient Theater of Kalydon is an unusual square plan theater, situated 2 km west to Evenus River and 500 m south to Antirrio-Ioannina National Highway, at the heart of the interesting archeological site of ancient Kalydon.
The site was discovered during the construction works of the national highway and was excavated between 2001 - 2003, excavations that are currently continuing under the Danish Institute at Athens in collaboration with the local Ephorate of Antiquities.
Bottom line - an interesting and rare archeological site of its kind in Greece, however, the entire site, including the temple of Artemis and Apollo (150 m west to the theater and the archaeological site 200 m northeast), are still far from being a tourist attraction and require extensive excavation and restoration work.
