The locals call it "Wall". And they are not wrong. It is built on a long earthen ridge and divides the landscape in two. Just as it separates the waters: Everything that falls on the south side flows towards Libya. And what falls in the north ends up in the Cretan Sea. Although it has been about 2,000 years since it was built, large parts of it still stand. It is located in Kastamonitsa, right next to the small settlement of Metochi. The settlement is officially called Wall - it took its name from the project. This is the aqueduct of ancient Lyktos. Huge project for the data of the time. The inhabitants of the city with such a bright name (Lyktos - city of light) were thirsty. So they set before them an ambitious plan: to bring water from a distance of 22 kilometers, from a spring near Krasi! They built giant walls, carved rocks, went through cliffs and ravines, studied the height differences to make the water flow smoothly. And, of course, they did! In short: There is no wall everywhere. Where there were rocky slopes no wall was needed. There they carved the rocks. And they made pipes with stones (!) So that the precious water would not be contaminated by the impurities of the animals. The center of the ancient city was further west. I have known him since I was a child ...... the Great Wall of Crete (!) I had never heard then that there was also ... a Great Wall. The ancients said that it was built by Cyclops and Sarandapichos
