Shame on you Sparta. Shame on you Greece! Tomb of Leonidas who singlehandedly saved western civilization doesn’t even have an info table let alone a proper tomb stone! Fix this please!

I was admiring this to see a little of an explanation how this pile of rocks got here and what it stands for....and could not find any. How can this be so unexplained sight...yet so meaningful..?

At the time we visited the Tomb of Leonidas (in the early afternoon) the entrance door was closed. Even if it's open, there's nothing special to see, read, explore... there. From our point of view, the Tomb of Leonidas is not worth a visit.

We liked the idea that the tomb has been somewhat preserved- obviously it is very old and in the heart of the new Sparta town. Unfortunately for us at least the gates were closed when we visited, although we did take a couple of pictures. There was no price for entry and no ticket booth that we could see. It is very close to the Leonidas statue and also the site of Ancient Sparti.

We wanted to see the tomb of leonidas for his historical impact... what we found were stones behind a closed fence with no explanation whatsoever... we were only a few tourist in the city and you could understand why... If you're in the region stop by the city to see the statue, tomb and archeological site but don't make a detour for it

This tomb is such a meaningful monument for the history of Greece... how come it is not taken care of ? Trash behind the fences and no sign whatsoever to explain the existence of Leonidas and his role in history. No doubt nothing is taken care of in the city of Sparta. Just a sign would not cost much.

I was missing any kind of the decription sign or anything. There are basically just stones behind the fence. It is good to see but the city could promote it’s monuments and interesting places better to get more tourist around.

Weathered, and not preserved well. Easy to get to, but unfortunate condition for a tomb.
