Z	Zach Nielsen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are in the area of Platanes, Upano is a must!!! My family and I spent two wonderful evenings eating dinner here. The atmosphere is laid back but also semi formal. After midnight the kitchen closes and the restaurant turns into more of a club vibe. The food Is great and they have a wide variety. The first night, I tried thier sushi, and would highly recommend it, I frequent Japan and have eaten some of the best sushi in the world, so that's saying something. The second night I had the paella and it was great as well. The rest of my family enjoyed thier meals my mom even said "this is the best meal I've had in a very long time!". The service was excellent and we were treated like royalty. Their hookah was good as well. All around great food, and excellent service!!!

I know it is a spanish dish but when it is titled as a paella i expect it to taste like paella. The dish came and it looked like rice pudding. It tasted disgusting. Like a mushroom rissotto with sea food. I complained and the waiter took it back to the chef. It was replaced with exactly the same dish. The waiter went on to tell us that thats how pealla is in Greece. I found that unacceptable but we were charged for the meal even though it was bearly eaten. There was no colouring. Saffron (main ingredient of a paella) Im affriad we were very disappointed with our visit. This is their reply : Firts of all we would like to apologize for your disappointment in our restaurant. We want always for our guests to enjoy the area and the tastes of Upano restaurant. Now, i would like also to explain how our dish paella is made by our chef . Is a light version of the original Spanish paella that attracts mostly the local customer and is based on a traditional way (without meat as you realised) However we dont want to copy the Spanish paella . A	Abdullah Arafa on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Modern american style restusrant / bar with steaks menu as well as greek cousin. Nice for a change than normal greek restaurants. Very helpful staff. Great music
D	David Mathas on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This restaurant is worth one star. The one star is just only because it looks nice. That’s about it. We ordered one appetizer, but got two. My spaghetti carbonara tasted like pasta with water and weird meat pieces. The climax of the evening was the risotto with mushrooms that my girlfriend ordered. One of the mushrooms tasted really bad (sour) which caused nausea in her. The response of the restaurant was ridiculous: the waiter told her she probably didn’t like parmesan or mushrooms (while pouring more wine into her glass!) and the host asked me multiple times later if she drunk too much alcohol (what?). After all of this he told us how good their quality was and some completely irrelevant details about mushrooms. All they should have done is take responsibility, but they went into defense... Oh and it’s overpriced too, the most expensive in Crete so far. It was a disappointing evening that ended bad. A tip: stay out of this street and go to Rethymno!

Staff were so attentive, yet not overbearing; they kept your glasses topped off and a smile on your face. What more can you ask for? Free bottle of filtered water, free bruschetta starter, and free lemon desert. Had the paella to share. It was heavenly. Even more so along myself and my partner's (reasonably priced) expertly blended cocktails! Highlight of my visit so far. Hard to top this really. We'll be back soon, Upano! PS. The views are incredible, the almost distract from the dining experience.

It's upper-floor restaurant sets it apart from the rest, offering a sleek, modern appearance. The menu is somewhat limited compared to the other nearby restaurants, but is excellently executed and decently priced. It's a great example of 'it's better to do a few things well, than many things just okay'. The waiters are attentive and friendly. On the other hand, the cocktail menu is quite varied, but also quite pricey. However, this is also one of the few restaurants nearby that has a separate DJ and in total, the prices are extremely reasonable for a restaurant with such a 'high class' vibe. I would absolutely recommend Upano and we certainly came back here more often.
