Combination of parks, semi-wild and chamber; abandoned stone craters; sport school; pleasant view along the roof of a wall.

It’s a bit tricky to find the way to get up there but when you do, the glory of the cement city of Heraklion unravels! We walked for around 30 minutes on the walls and took in some interesting views of this anarchically built city. Although the pathway on the walls looks recently constructed, the lighting seems to be inefficient. We went early in the evening and we had to use the flashlights of our phones every now and then... Although we didn’t face any problem, I believe that better lighting would make this place feel safer… There were some explanatory signs but without proper lighting, they were difficult to read.

Nice place for walking with family or for morning running. Have many benches to sit with beautiful view of Heraklion city. You can walk around almost the entire old town along the Venetian wall. it is not recommended to walk in very hot weather when the sun is strong.

We walked the walls from here clockwise around the old town until we hit the sea. Great walk with some amazing views of the surrounding area, almost no one else on the wall at about 9am while it is still relatively cool. It’s really awesome to see the outdoor theatres that have been established within some parts of the walls, I wish we had time to check them out.

A lovely walk on top of the walls, with well maintained paths. You can go from here all the way to the sea. Be aware the sea exit & the one just before are closed for construction as of June 2021, or you will have a much longer walk than you planned. In my opinion, a better walk than the breakwater during the day, as you can actually get an ocean breeze and also the views are spectacular.

A great walk you can start from freedom square and slowly to go up to the walls and continue to the whole city and finish near the sea and then continue by the sea side the walk.. around 6 km walk with nice views of the city, of the sea..

The big walls around Herakleion was made many years ago at the Venetian control time .the walls was the second defence line because in the front was water from sea surrounding the old city, thats why the old name is Handakas witch mean the big trench. Nowadays the walls are perfect for walk or running and the view from the place is breathtaking since the walls start from centrer of the city until the sea side.the west side near bus station is a beautiful small park.
