★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Αθανασίου είναι το κέντρο που ενώνει κυριολεκτικά και μεταφορικά το χωριό του Μαρκοπούλου.
Χτισμένος στον κεντρικό δρόμο της κοινότητας ενώνει με τον αρχιτεκτονικό του τύπο την επάνω με την κάτω πλατεία. Αν έρθει ο επισκέπτης από την επάνω πλευρά , μπορεί να αγναντέψει θέα που φτάνει μέχρι την Εύβοια. Από την κάτω πλευρά θα προσπαθήσει να χαθεί στα στενά του σκαλοπάτια, λες και βρίσκεται σε αιγαιοπελαγίτικο νησί.
Η εικόνα του Αγίου, του Κυρίου και της Θεοτόκου δεσπόζουν επάνω από την πλαϊνή πόρτα. Στην κύρια είσοδο μαρμάρινη πλάκα μνημονεύει όσους έπεσαν υπέρ πατρίδος στον πόλεμο 12-13. Άλλη μια μαρμάρινη πλάκα έχει ανάγλυφα σχέδια δελφινιών και καραβιού , πιθανόν λόγω της κοντινής θάλασσας ώστε ο Άγιος να προστατεύει του ναυτικούς. Ποιος ξέρει;
Ένα χοντρό σχοινί περιμένει το χέρι που θα ηχήσει την κεντρική καμπάνα. Στο πίσω μέρος του ναού υπάρχει και μια τετράδα από καινούργιες, ηλεκτρικές. Κάτω από αυτές ένα παγκάκι. Όχι τόσο σοφό να καθήσει κανείς κάτω από αυτές.
Στον προαύλιο χώρο η απλότητα, ένα παγκάκι, μία βρύση. Έτσι και αλλιώς ο Ναός αποπνέει αυτή την απλότητα.
Ένα τεράστιο κυπαρίσσι προσπαθεί να φτάσει στον ουρανό μαζί με τις προσευχές.
Άγιε του Θεού πρέσβευε υπέρ ημών!
The Church of Agios Athanasios is the center that literally and figuratively unites the village of Markopoulo.
Built on the main street of the community, it joins the upper square with the lower square with its architectural type. If the visitor comes from the upper side, he can gaze at a view that reaches as far as Evia. From the bottom he will try to get lost in its narrow stairs, as if he is on an Aegean island.
The image of the Saint, the Lord and the Virgin dominates above the side door. At the main entrance a marble slab mentions those who fell in favor of the homeland in the 12-13 war. Another marble slab has relief designs of dolphins and a ship, probably due to the nearby sea so that the Saint could protect his sailors. Who knows;
A thick rope awaits the hand that will ring the central bell. At the back of the temple there is a quartet of new, electric ones. Below them is a bench. Not so wise to sit under them.
In the courtyard the simplicity, a bench, a fountain. The Temple exudes this simplicity anyway.
A huge cypress tree tries to reach the sky along with the prayers.
