Magnificent and breathtaking route up the cliff, overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Monastery, simply amazing. A must-do in Amorgos.

Extraordinary monastery nested in a cliff overlooking the Aegean. Breathtaking panorama. Short visit (you don't really visit the monastery), free entrance. At the end of the visit, you get a glass of water, a loukoum and a little glass of psimeni (mix of raki, honey and cinnamon). Quite nice. Steep and sunburnt access, take a hat and water!

A gem in the Greek Cyclades be became known after much of the movie ‘The Big Blue’ was made there Distant from Athens and Mykonos island I tracked down this Gem when outsiders were not ‘approved, I’ve returned five times and visitors are very welcome Do go visit the monastery and if you like a cocktail- perhaps an Ouzo, you must visit the small bar ‘The big blue, which is played constantly on the large TV. Best is to stay at Hotel Adonis, retain your room (Mykonos) the ocean ride on the Flying Dolphins (Jet powered) is so much fun and to stop off at the occasional island to drop of passengers, my favorite being lovely Ios. Please say hi to Mihali and Roz if you stay on the strategically located ‘Adonis Hotel’ on Mykonos. You’ll never forget this trip and I travel the world- the Greek Islands remain a favorite ?

This place is incredible. Catch the local bus over then and then walk up heaps of steps. It's a must if you visit Amorgos. I would go early morning as the walk up is hot. You also have to cover your shoulders and knees to enter.

There is every reason to go there, but definitely not by bike from the seashore. Amazing construction above the infinite Aegean blue. When the meltemi blows over Amorgos, the sea bellow seems to be dancing and whirling like a kaleidoscope. Early morning gets the best light - in the shades on afternoons.

Hozoviotissa Monastery in Amorgos is one of the most impressive sites I've ever seen. It is located in a cliff, providing a breathtaking view of the blue waters of the Aegean Sea.The monastery was created as an ode to the Grace of Panagia who is also the saint protector of the island.

We drove using our car, almost at sunset to avoid the heat. We found a place to park the car and we walked up to the monastery. We have been welcome by the monks with an alcoholic drinks - which we didn't refuse - and the we enjoyed the silence and the magic of the place.

Brilliant and much visited Island— Monastery. Be fit for the long walk uphill stairs. The religion of Orthodox Greece requires the covering of the body. Should, however you arrive wearing Shorts you’ll not be turned away but rather be offered a blue gown.
