This place is absolutely wonderful. We ate many times during our stay and were completely awed by the care and love that went into the food and the service. This family restaurant has recipes that are fused from generations and families and histories. Even their dog is filled with smiles and laughter :) The food was really hearty and everything, even the chips, are grown or raised by them. A particular highlight was the chicken in tomato sauce, totally unlike any chicken you’ve ever had, lamb in wine sauce and, a must have, are the stuffed zucchini flowers. But the pictures here are from breakfast, the yoghurt is made from their own sheep’s milk and honey! We asked about their animals and farms and were invited to go and help feed the wild goats and sheep, even hear the bees. The animals love him so much and he knows them so well. Thank you for such a memorable experience! We miss you!

Located at the small village of Moni, just before reaching Sougia, this nice taverna is a pleasant surprise. The quality of the raw materials is the star of your meal and is what someone should expect when in Crete (amazing, pure & tasty). Do try as many seasonal veggies as possible and whichever local delicacy is on the daily menu (like the stuffed zucchini flower buds). For the lovers of yogurt, do not forget to ask for the homemade one, it's one of the best I've had! Daily cooked meals are good yet not the best you can have in Crete (at least the ones we tried) but the local produce, the owners and the staff will make your stay worthy and memorable. Additionally you can get a pretty good breakfast too (go for the sunnyside up eggs with myzithra and tomatoes) and prices are way more fair than any other place at Sougia. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone in need of a nice cretan meal when around here.

A good place for a stop to Sougia and for us our favorite dinner place when staying at Moni. Monica makes you feel at home, and you must try her dinner specials - marvelous!!!

Amazing place. We ate here many Times during our stay in nearby hotel. Very nice, attentive service, tasty food, big portions and affordable prices. Also clear pricing of bread/water (not necessary true for all restaurants in Crete). It was a big up-side of our stay in Crete. On a side note-if you take lemonade, take home made one, its amazing!

Traditional homemade cuisine. It was so tasteful we only went to that restaurant during the 24 hours we stayed in the area. The hosts were welcoming and the prices were fair, which is always appreciated.

Proper filoxenia, Greek hospitality in the Cretan mountains. The owners, Monica and Mixali, are true foodies — every dish they make is infused with love. Herbs from their garden. Locally sourced, fresh, in-season ingredients. Yia yia, grandma-style cooking. Local, artisanal delicacies. We had 3 meals there in 2 days. Try the staka, dolmadakia and anthous — zucchini flowers too. All their grilled and oven cooked meat was delicious. And the sokolatopita — chocolate cake was mouth watering. ???

Wow! Amazing place! Little gem in the mountain. The cuisine of Monica is really tasty and authentic. We had dinner for 3 nights here while we were staying at the Monastery Estate and we enjoyed it very much. Prices are really low compared to the quality of the food, and be prepared to eat a lot (portions are very generous) :)

We loved this little, family owned tavern. Monica and Michalis are kind and hospital. They also have plenty of vegetarian options. We went there three times. Once we had dinner and two times we had breakfast/lunch. Everything tasted so good and the prices are absolutely fair. We never paid more than €25 for a whole meal with drinks (two adults). We had the breakfast menu with tomatoes, cucumber, olives, feta, mizithra and bread/rusks together with the fruit salad with greek yoghurt and honey. And of course the tasty orange juices with a freddo espresso. For dinner we had the spicy feta dip, black bean/pea salad and the homemade feta with bread. Also the local beer is nice, we tried the pale ale and pilsner! We will come here again!
