Γύρω από την τεράστια κεντρική πλατεία αναπτύσσονται τέσσερις στοές με κιονοστοιχίες προς την πλατεία, οι οποίες σχηματίζουν ένα κανονικό ορθογώνιο σχήμα με περιορισμένες προσβάσεις προς αυτό. Πρόκειται για τη μεγαλύτερη ορθογώνια αγορά της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας Η κύρια πρόσβαση προς την Αγορά γίνεται μέσω μίας λεωφόρου που τη διασχίζει στον άξονα Ανατολής-Δύσης και έχει το εντυπωσιακό πλάτος των 15 μ. Η Αγορά πρέπει να κτίστηκε κατά τα χρόνια της βασιλείας του Κασσάνδρου (τέλη 4ου αιώνα π. Χ.) πάνω στη θέση του κλασικού νεκροταφείου της πόλης και αποτέλεσε το εμπορικό, διοικητικό και κοινωνικό κέντρο της ελληνιστικής Πέλλας μέχρι την καταστροφή της, 200 χρόνια αργότερα, πιθανότατα από σεισμό. Η βίαιη καταστροφή της άφησε σχεδόν άθικτο το περιεχόμενο των χώρων που αναπτύσσονταν πίσω από τις στοές της, με αποτέλεσμα να διασωθούν πολύτιμα στοιχεία για την ταύτιση της χρήσης αυτών των χώρων. Σήμερα γνωρίζουμε ότι καταστήματα κατασκευής και πώλησης κεραμικών σκευών και ειδωλίων υπήρχαν στην ανατολική πτέρυγα της Αγοράς, τρόφιμα πωλούνταν στη νότια πτέρυγα και σε τμήμα της δυτικής, αρώματα και μεταλλικά αντικείμενα πωλούνταν στη δυτική πτέρυγα και αλλού, ενώ χάλκινα αντικείμενα κατασκευάζονταν και πωλούνταν στο νοτιοανατολικό τμήμα της Αγοράς. Στη δυτική πτέρυγα πωλούνταν και εισαγμένα κεραμικά σκεύη, κεραμίδες στέγης κ.ά. Στη νοτιοδυτική γωνία της Αγοράς ανασκάφηκε ένα ξεχωριστό κτίριο με περιστύλιο, το οποίο ταυτίστηκε με αρχείο εγγράφων της πόλης, χάρη στις δεκάδες μικρών πήλινων σφραγισμάτων που βρέθηκαν εκεί και κάποτε σφράγιζαν έγγραφα (γραμμένα σε πάπυρο) πολυάριθμων δημόσιων αρχών και αξιωματούχων. Διοικητικές χρήσεις είχε και η βόρεια πτέρυγα, η οποία φιλοξενούσε ένα εντυπωσιακό Νυμφαίο, μία ορθογώνια αίθουσα όπου πρέπει να συνεδρίαζαν οι πολιτάρχες και αψιδωτή αίθουσα συγκεντρώσεων. The north wing, which housed an impressive Nymphaeum, a rectangular hall where the mayors were to meet, and an arched assembly hall, also had administrative uses.

S	Skye Allen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a great and wonderful site, primarily for the sheer amount of history in the area, but it's poorly maintained. It's was very sad to see the state the site was in, but I think it's still a must see for any fans of history and all things Greek.
