It's worth the 3 euro ticket prize, I learned a lot about the place. It's remarkable that after all those years it's still standing.

This is a small amphitheater but even here you can hear the famous acoustics of Greek amphetatres, I advise all visitors to pay attention to this by standing in the center of the amphitheater and saying a few words. The road to the ampetiatr is unpaved, you can find the way to this place by following the signs.

Well-preserved theatre is something to look at when you're in the neighbourhood. But I don't know when I will be for the next time in Maronia

We stumbled upon the theater, while roaming a dirty road, on our way to the beach. Very interesting place in the middle of nowhere, the theater is one of the few ancient buildings from ancient Maroneia, the site of which is unlocated. Two architectural phases are distinguished, dated to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Totall personal win! Both beach and archeology sight seeing accomplishments.

The ancient theater of Maroneia is a small theater, located 30 km southeast to Komotini and 2.5 km south of village Maroneia. The ancient town of Maroneia was one of the wealthiest towns of ancient Greece it was spread over a vast area at the foot of Mount Ismaros. Many parts of the ancient town have not yet been discovered, but fortunately, the theater was discovered and excavated. Its construction dates back to the Hellenistic period (3rd century B.C.), But the excavations carried out at the site reveal that the site was renovated and expanded during the Roman period and that it had a capacity of 2,500-3,000 viewers. Over the past five years, the site has undergone extensive restoration work and it hosts cultural events from time to time. You can be reach there from the road that leads to Marina Agios Charalampos (requires a 1km drive on a dirt road from the sign post) and the entrance is payable. Bottom line: Nice archaeological site of great historical importance, but still requires extensive restoration work.
