APOLLO rent a car, Gavrio, Andros - Andros island

Here you should never hire a car! We got a completely dirty car with lots of scratches and when we brought it back he drove with the car to car wash and afterwards searched half an hour for new scratches. This is definitely a trap!

Stay away! This is no ordinary car rental company , this is a scam, under the guise of renting a car! Do not be tempted to rent a car from them, even if they ask for 1 euro per day, in the end you will lose much more! We arrived at night, and got the car at night, the guy who was in the car rental office, filmed a video of the car. When we returned the car , he claimed that there was a small defect we made, we asked to see the video he took, and this defect was clearly seen in the video, and he claimed that we made a new defect, on the old defect, which is of course an absurd claim. They insisted on taking our deposit for a sum of 300 euros. Stay away from them like fire!

This has been a complicated car rental. Apollo unfairly charged us the entire deposit, claiming already existing damages to justify the charge. Upon our pick up of the car from Apollo Rental Cars located in Andros Port (Gavrio), the contract that was given to us did not show any evidence of the already existing defects. Alternatively, we were asked to make a video of the car showing all the defects. As everybody can imagine, a video of a white car taken by a cellular phone under the hot sun and a very strong wind can in no case be precise. In addition the car was full of defects in every part of it and during the video we rationally focused on the major ones, we could not imagine that we had to take a radiography of the car. Upon the car return to the rental company, the operator started showing us some very thin lines on the car asserting that were not present before. He immediately pointed the ones that were impossible to be detected by a cellular phone video and said nothing regarding the clearly evident damages. Fortunately, after contacting Imperial Car Rentals, the partner company through which we had made the on-line reservation, we received a partial refund of the deposit.

not a nice experience with this rental company. Just € 400 will be charged to your credit card. of which nothing was known! first day after half an hour we stopped with a warm engine. there was no water in the radiator at all. with the help of friendly people topped up with water and were able to continue after an hour. The man from the rental company wanted to come by but did not know where we were. After contacting us by phone, we told him that he no longer needed to come. When he returned the car, he could not meet us here. We could have waited twelve hours for help. The only thing he knew was a scratch and which will cost € 140. after a change of words but taken abhorrence of this soulful figure. I will no longer rent a car here

Extremely bad service and a huge scam. We got ripped off big time, as they claimed days after we delivered the car that they found a scratch and deducted €180 from our deposit! We sent them the video which proves that the car was not scratched but they didn’t seem to care. Overall We ended up paying twice as much and unfortunately we cannot do anything about it as the consumer rights are not as protected as in other EU countries.

Do not! Do not! Do not! I waited until the Covid-19 will allow traveling again before I wrote this. If you wish to spoil your vacation at Andros, rent a car from them. The rental price is not there target, They are targeting your deposit! You will pay the rental price and the deposit! If you will choose a low deposit option then you will pay an unproportional fixing price. Thy will find the way to find a micro scratch and then charge the full deposit. Their deposit system is a way to charge you so much that is will be close to buy the car it self. You will get an old car (in a good condition) and you will be charged as fixing a Mercedes ... The Island routes and parking area are so tight that it will be a miracle if nobody will open a door on your car... and then say bye bye to your deposit! In my case, for a ridicules scratch I lost 400 euros! I felt cheated !

Avoid- Apollo Rent a car is a not a trustworthy rental company. We were given a car with at least 10 scratches and dents, across almost every panel. The steering wheel was dissolving in our hands and the central control was unusable. When we came to return the car the representative took an absolute age going around the car seeking something that could be construed as damage in order to charge us. The slightest of scratches was focussed upon despite the very poor state of the vehicle overall and on this basis we were told we had to pay an additional cost which was completely out of context with the extremely questionable damage. I have hired 1,000’s of cars through my life and could tell when I am being a victim of a scam. I am thus writing this review in order to warn other potential victims of what is in my view a completely crooked business that gives the beautiful island of Andros a bad name. I am certain the charge they are insisting is paid from our deposit will not go towards fixing the car... as it was dented and scratched all over without any car to repair any of the damage between rentals. I am also certain that many others have been caught out by this crooked practise. Apollo Car Rental should be avoided at all costs... as it will cost you more than you expect to pay at the start of the rental.

It would be unfair to say something bad about APOLLO's cars from a mechanical point of view, because I finally opted not to rent a car from the the abovementioned business. Nevertheless, despite the fact that I was about to rent a small car (without having firstly read the Google reviews), I was asked to pre-pay the amount of EUR 300 in cash as a deposit in case of damages, or -as a second option- to have my credit/debit card's number copied by the two gentlemen in charge. Given that such practice is totally illegal, I simply left and this was probably the smartest thing to do.
