What a great discovery! Huge portions of excellent food and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Excellent food at a seriously good price.

Had a wonderful stay - the epitome of Cretan hospitality. When you eat in the Taverna, ask them to recommend you the local food on the menu. You will have a unique experience that you cannot get anywhere else!

This was the best stay I had in Crete. The family owned hotel welcomes you with full heart. We stayed there for 2 nights. We were the only tourists, got to know the village. So much to discover here. You also have a pool and the view is amazing. The tavern served the best Greek food. If you want to discover the authentic Crete, don't miss this place. You get an amazing view of the mountains and so much peace. Can't compare it to the touristic places in Crete. We will come again!

Lovely town. I liked the old town best but the harbour area is also great. Well worth a look.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Aravanes for 3 nights in June 2022 and loved everything about it! The taverna/hotel has an amazing view over the Amari valley and we really enjoyed having meals on the terrace overlooking such a beautiful scenery. At night it's very quiet, so you can sleep with windows open or just gaze at the stars. The food is genuinely homemade. We particularly enjoyed the smoked pork and the many vegetarian options cooked with flavourful local produce. The owners always make you feel welcomed and at home, and are always happy to share tips about what to do in the area. We especially enjoyed hiking in Platania's gorge and visit the many ancient Bizantine churches in the valley (great frescoes in Thronos and Meronas). We can't wait to be back in another season and maybe try some of Aravanes' activities.

We came here as a quick stop for lunch. Perfect timing as we had the entire terrace to ourselves! Food was delicious, service was very friendly and the views were unforgettable. We almost didn't want to leave. Perfect for a relaxing step back from travel or a romantic date.
