★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Despite advertised times, museum was shut on this Saturday May 18th. Our third try after local assurances it would open. Quite a few other people also frustrated. See attached note we found referring to 10 of those.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The museum is a very nice visit. Even though small you can see enough stuff of the archaic years of the island before the castle periods.
The island had quite an interesting link with Crete and displays some of its unique findings. Make sure to have a talk with mr. Nicos the staff of the museum. He will definitely tell interesting stories. We enjoyed talking to him and thank him for the valuable information

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice archaeological museum focused on the history of Cythira and Anticythira from palaiolithic to classical times. The museum reopened quite recently (2016) and its presentation is modern and not boring. Alas the museum is really small (two small rooms) and it's collection consists mostly of pottery fragments. That doesn't mean that there aren't some impressive artefacts, like the (great) archaic lion statue, the bronze minoic statuettes, and the bronze statuette of Athina. It might not have the size of other Greek archaeological museums but it's definitely worth a visit

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The curation is really good and the narrative of ancient Kythera is easy to follow. The general admission is 4 euros and when we visited there was no aircon so the heat was unbearable. The museum is clean and the collection is worth a visit. Your visit won't last long as this is a relatively small museum.
