Helpful and welcoming staff and a nice, small museum. Also within walking distance of the Lydia Baptistery. The cats outside are friendly too.

Phillipi has a fascinating history spanning over 2300 years, it was founded by Phillip the 2nd king of the Macedons. The site was inscribed as a world heritage site in 2016. The ruins that survive are mainly from the Roman period and paleochristian period. It is most famous for the battle of Phillipi one of the greatest battles of the Roman civil war. It pitted Marc Antony and Octavian against Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius. The battle was ferocious and it involved 200000 soldiers. The outcome of the battle was victory for Marc Antony and Octavian, whilst Brutus and Cassius commited suicide before beeing captured. Philipi is also the area where apostle Paul first came to Europe and preached to the masses. In fact according to the New testament the first european convert to Christianity was from Phillipi, Lydia who is considered a saint by most christian denominations.

It was great to see all that history from this beautiful country! I really recomend you to visit this place, you can learn a lot from the past and see how they evolved. As in each other land, you can discover so many interesting things and places, not only the beach ? which is extremely beautiful ❤

The museum was on the site of the Archeological site of Philippi. The museum has 3 floors. Windows and great air conditioning. It was very hot outside in September 2020. They also had a machine full of drinks and snacks. You could see the museum in an hour. But the site could use 2-3 hours. The signs are in English and Greek. Very great for tourists.

Very well done! Displays really showed and explained alot. I do recommend a Larger and detailed city reconstruction, in addition to the pure white one showed.
