Ο εικονογραφικός διάκοσμος αποτελεί δείγμα της υψηλής τέχνης του 12ου αιώνα της Σχολής της Κωνσταντινούπολης. Στη ΝΑ γωνία του ναού υπάρχει εντοιχισμένο κεραμεικό κόσμημα με θέμα τον αετό. Ο νάρθηκας έχει κατεδαφιστεί, άγνωστο πότε. Μεταγενέστερες επιδιορθώσεις έχουν δεχτεί, η κεντρική αψίδα και η πρόθεση. Μεταγενέστερες επίσης είναι και οι τέσσερις αντηρίδες εξωτερικά. Η μονή ιδρύθηκε το 1152 από το σεβαστοκράτορα Ισαάκιο Κομνηνό, τριτότοκο γιο του Αλέξιου του Α'. Ο Ισαάκιος συνέθεσε το τυπικό της μονής, στην οποία και τάφηκε. Διακόσια χρόνια μετά, το καθολικό μετατρέπεται σε τζαμί του Σουλεϊμάν και πεντέμισι αιώνες αργότερα, πάλι σε χριστιανική εκκλησία. Σήμερα λειτουργεί το καθολικό της μονής. The monastery comprises a fortress wall (walls, towers, gate) and a cathedral-type two-storeyed temple with five-roofed housing. The pictorial decoration is an example of the high art of the 12th century at the Istanbul School. In the SE corner of the temple there is a built-in eagle-shaped ceramic jewelry. The splint has been torn down, unknown when. Subsequent repairs have been accepted, the central apse and the intent. The four outer brackets are also later on. The monastery was founded in 1152 by Sebastian Emperor Isaac Komninos, the eldest son of Alexios I. Isaac composed the typical monastery where he was buried. Two hundred years later, the catholicon was converted into a Suleiman mosque and five and a half centuries later, again into a Christian church. Today the monastery's cathedral operates.

Το μοναστήρι, που θεωρείται ένα από το καλύτερα δείγματα της κωνσταντινουπολίτικης τέχνης στον ελλαδικό χώρο, λειτούργησε μέχρι τα μέσα του 14ου αιώνα.
