C	Chronis Papachristou on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Τα Ίσθμια ήταν πανελλήνιοι αγώνες αφιερωμένοι στον Ποσειδώνα. Τιμούσαν το Μελικέρτη (γνωστό και ως Παλαίμονα) και καθιερώθηκαν από το Σίσυφο, το θρυλικό ιδρυτή της Κορίνθου. Ήταν μία από τις τέσσερις πανελλήνιες αθλητικές συναντήσεις της αρχαίας Ελλάδας. Οι υπολοιπες πανελλήνιες αθλητικές συναντήσεις γίνονταν στην Ολυμπία (αφιερωμένες στο Δία), στους Δελφούς (αφιερωμένες στον Απόλλωνα) και στη Νεμέα (αφιερωμένες στον Δία). Ο πρώτος Ναός του Ποσειδώνα κτίστηκε περίπου το 650 π.Χ. Περίπου το 450 π.Χ. καταστράφηκε από πυρκαγιά και αμέσως κτίστηκε στη θέση του μεγαλύτερος (δωρικού τύπου). Μια άλλη πυρκαγιά το 390 π.Χ. κατέστρεψε μεγάλο μέρος του για να ανοικοδομηθεί ξανά στον ίδιο ρυθμό. Μετά την εισβολή των Ρωμαίων το 148 π.Χ. υπέστη ζημιές και έγινε ανακατασκευή του στα τέλη του 1ου αι. μ.Χ. Η λειτουργία του σταματά με την επιδρομή των Βησιγότθων του Αλάριχου τον 4ο αι. μ.Χ. Από το Θέατρο της δεν σώζονται παρά ελάχιστα διότι ξεθεμελιώθηκε για να προμηθεύσει οικοδομικό υλικό... Τα Ρωμαϊκά λουτρά κατασκευάστηκαν περίπου το 150 μ.Χ. (πιθανόν από τον Ηρώδη Αττικό). Στο κεντρικό τμήμα τους υπάρχουν δύο ασπρόμαυρα ψηφιδωτά με παραστάσεις θαλάσσιων όντων (σχετίζονται με τη λατρεία του Διονύσου). Στο ένα ψηφιδωτό παρατητούμε ένα χταπόδι με τα πλοκάμια του και καβούρια. Στο άλλο ψηφιδωτό απεικονίζεται Νηρηίδα με έναν Τρίτωνα και διάφορα θαλάσσια όντα. Isthmia was Panhellenic Games dedicated to Poseidon. They honored Melikerti (also known as Palaemon) and were established by Sissyphos, the legendary founder of Corinth. It was one of the four panhellenic athletic encounters of ancient Greece. Other Panhellenic sports meetings were held in Olympia (dedicated to Zeus), Delphi (dedicated to Apollo) and Nemea (dedicated to Zeus). The first Temple of Poseidon was built around 650 BC. About 450 BC destroyed by fire and immediately built in the place of the largest (Doric type). Another fire in 390 BC he destroyed much of it to be rebuilt again at the same pace. E	Ed Fulton on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Think Roman, rather than Greek. The highlight is the Roman Bathhouse with the remarkable monochrome mosaic floor. I’m not especially into mosaics, but this one is special and it grabbed my attention immediately. The Temple of Poseidon is large and imposing, but less well preserved- not to compare with nearby Korinthos or Nemea. The one-room museum has a few good pieces and is worth half an hour or so, more if you have a special interest. The friendly dog looks after you well.
I	Iila on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I didn't know it was closed only on Tuesdays. The Google suggested opening times are correct. I didn't notice, and I didn't find a phone number to call. I came all the way from Athens €9.9 by bus and walked 2k. I'll go to Argos on the same day - no chance to come back and visit:( When open, €3 entrance for the open air site. Indoor museum remains closed.
