★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η Τροιζήνα υπήρξε αρχαιότατη πόλη. Πρώτος βασιλιάς της αναφέρεται ο Ώρος. Το όνομά της σύμφωνα με τον μύθο το πήρε από τον γιο του Πέλοπα Τροιζήνα, την περίοδο που βασιλιάς της Τροιζήνας ήταν ο Πιτθέας. Κόρη του Πιτθέα ήταν η Αίθρα, μητέρα του ήρωα Θησέα. Ο Θησέας γεννήθηκε από την Αίθρα και τον βασιλιά της Αθήνας κατόπιν σχεδίου του πατέρα της Αίθρας, Πιτθέα. Όταν ενηλικιώθηκε πήγε στην Αθήνα, καθαρίζοντας από τους ληστές τον χερσαίο δρόμο που ένωνε την Τροιζήνα με την Αθήνα, που τότε ήταν γεμάτος κινδύνους. Ο Θησέας αφού σκότωσε τον Μινώταυρο και απελευθέρωσε τους Αθηναίους από την ηγεμονία του Μίνωα έγινε βασιλιάς της Αθήνας. Γιος του ήταν ο Ιππόλυτος, ο οποίος έγινε ήρωας για την Τροιζήνα και λατρεύτηκε σαν θεός. Στην πόλη υπήρχε σημαντικός ναός αφιερωμένος σ' αυτόν.[1]
Trizina was an ancient city. Heros is the first king mentioned. According to legend, it was named after his son Pelopa Troizina, at the time when Pithethas was king of Troezina. Pitthea's daughter was Aithra, mother of Theseus' hero. Theseus was born by Aithra and the king of Athens following the plan of Aithra's father, Pytheas. When he reached adulthood he went to Athens, clearing from the robbers the land route that united Trizina with Athens, which was then full of dangers. Theseus, after killing Minotaur and liberating the Athenians from the reign of Minos, became king of Athens. His son was Hippolytus, who became a hero for Trojina and worshiped as a god. In the city there was an important temple dedicated to him. [1]
