Οι μεγάλες διαστάσεις του (5,10 Χ 29,20 μέτρα) και η συνεχής χρήση του, από τα τέλη του 6ου ή αρχές του 5ου αιώνα π.Χ. μέχρι τα ύστερα ρωμαϊκά χρόνια, υποδηλώνουν έναν σημαντικό χώρο λατρείας της Αρχαίας Σπάρτης. Από τα ευρήματα του χώρου θεωρήθηκε ότι ήταν ιερό λατρείας αφηρωισμένων νεκρών. Εντυπωσιακά λίθινα ανάγλυφα με αφηρωισμένους νεκρούς μπορείτε να δείτε στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο της Σπάρτης. From the findings of the place it was considered that it was a sanctuary of worship of abstract dead. Impressive stone reliefs with abstracted dead can be seen at the Archaeological Museum of Sparta.
