In the Roman forum of the ancient city of Corinth, rebuilt after the destruction as the great Greek polis that it was, in the year 146, between the Juliana basilica and the southeast building, there was a row of shops, known as the shops of the center , which crossed the forum from east to west. At the center of this line is the base of the Bema, an elaborate ceremonial "rostrum" that served as a pulpit for Roman officials addressing the public, of which practically nothing remains of its spectacular structures. In front of it, there is a rectangular stone where those who were brought before the court waited. In the Middle Ages, a small three-apse Christian church was built at this point, probably indicating the belief that Paul stood before Governor Galio at this location. On the Bema, which can be climbed, the Roman city can be seen well and we find a stone with an inscription in Greek and English that refers to the apostle: "For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal Weight of glory Beyond all compared "from his Second Letter to Corinthians 4:17.
