Während der Olympischen Spiele der Antike gab es keine Fackelläufe. Stattdessen wurden Läufer (ohne Fackel) von der Stadt Elis (Hüter der Spiele, Vorbereitungsort aller Athleten) in alle Städte entsandt um den Start der Spiele und die damit verbundene Waffenruhe (3 Monate) zu verkünden. Während der Spiele herrschte absoluter Frieden.
 The Olympic flame has been lit here since 1936 (Olympiad in Berlin) and then brought as a torch to the respective venue for the Olympic Games. There were no torch relays during the ancient Olympic Games. Instead, runners (without a torch) were sent from the city of Elis (keeper of the games, preparation site for all athletes) to all cities to announce the start of the games and the associated ceasefire (3 months). There was absolute peace during the games.
