★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow what a find! Unlike most tourist attractions in Greece, Methoni castle is a medieval castle on the coast of Methoni village. A wonderful location where secrets abound and wonders never cease to exist. After approximately an hour or so of exploring a very large and interesting walled citadel, we came across the highlight: the walled maritime fort which is incredibly well preserved condition. Dungeons, towers, twisting and turning causeways - this unique structure is perched on crystal clear waters which beg to be snorkelled / dived (maybe in the summer when the waters are warmer).
Hope this place stays as quiet and unspoilt as
It was when we found it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Loved this place. It is extremely photogenic. The light is amazing. The sky, the sea, intensely blue. This is definitely one of the many jewels that Greece has to offer to all the travellers who visit her. Highly recommended!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sensational Venetian fortress in the southern Peloponnese. Unique in its location, size and status, the two Euro entry fee is well spent. Breathtaking views and atmosphere. Takes at least an hour to take all in and to capture some good photos. Careful: Closes rather early (3 PM in summer).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best castles in Peloponnese. Totally worth your visit.
Hint: I recommend to visit in in the afternoon before the close time when the sun is going down. When you finish with the castle go on the hill to the right side of the castle to watch the sunset

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A really unique, picturesque place! You can even swim at the back of the boat harbour and next to the castle walls. Swimming under the walls of a medieval fort is a unique experience.
Visiting the castle is also definitely worth it (especially for just a 2€ ticket!)

The castle of Methoni is one of the most important fortress complexes in Greece, and today is a beautiful archaeological site that covers 9.3 hectares and ends at the Bourtzi, an octagonal tower surrounded by the sea on all sides. ?⛱️??
