Δεξιά και αριστερά των όχθων του από τους Τοξότες έως τη θάλασσα σε μήκος 27 και πλάτος 3-7 χιλιόμετρα, ζωογονεί με τα νερά του το ωραιότερο και πολυτιμότερο δάσος της Ευρώπης, το Μέγα Δάσος, γνωστό παλιότερα ως “Κοτζά Ορμάν”
