Δημιουργήθηκε τον Οκτώβριο του 2014 μετά από συνένωση της ΙΕ' Εφορείας Κλασσικών και Προϊστορικών Αρχαιοτήτων και της 7ης Εφορείας Βυζαντινών Αρχαιοτήτων, που προϋπήρχαν από το 1974 και 1970 αντιστοίχως.Η περίοδος που καλύπτει η δράση της, είναι από τους προϊστορικούς ως τους μεταβυζαντινούς χρόνους και την περίοδο της οθωμανικής κυριαρχίας.Σ τις αρμοδιότητες της εντάσσονται: εντοπισμοί μνημείων, καταγραφές μνημείων και κινητών αντικειμένων, ανασκαφικές έρευνες, αναστηλωτικές εργασίες, εργασίες ανάδειξης μνημείων και χώρων, εργασίες συντήρησης κινητών και ακινήτων μνημείων, σύσταση νέων Μουσείων και Συλλογών, διοργάνωση περιοδικών εκθέσεων, οργάνωση εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων, διοργάνωση πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων, διοργάνωση συνεδρίων It is a Regional Service of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, based in Larissa and under the jurisdiction of the Regional Unit of Larissa. It was created in October 2014 after the merger of the 14th Ephorate of Classical and Prehistoric Antiquities and the 7th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, which existed before 1974 and 1970 respectively. The period covered by its action is from prehistoric to post-Byzantine period of Ottoman rule. It’s not a big museum, but it’s great for learning more about ancient Greece and Larisa. There is one small issue, the workers will follow you no matter where you go and they’ll talk to each other and look at you simultaneously which could be uncomfortable to some but it is not a big deal. It is though understandable because people might tamper with historical items and such. Overall, it’s a great place to go to if you’re visiting larisa for a day or two specially if you are interested in ancient Greece.
