You can see many old tools and artifacts and get an idea of how the Cretan villagers used to live. Some of the rooms feel like a room from their actual houses. I especially loved the embroidered fabrics

Also some info on textile production in the past. Hidden among the busy streets in a side alley. Definitely worth a short visit if you like to discover unique places.

'Official' museums in Crete have some tremendous artefacts and are very scholarly -- nothing wrong with that -- so they can come across as, well, a bit … dry, but the Folklore Museum is joyful. Looking at the multitude of items, it felt as if one was touching the lives of people who made and used them. We visited in April 2022 when it cost 3 euros to enter, and I'd say it's the best thing that you can get in Chania for that price!
