★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Το Οροπέδιο Γιους Κάμπος βρίσκεται στις βορειοδυτικές παρυφές του όρους Κέδρος, ανάμεσα στην κοιλάδα του Αμαρίου και στο Σπήλι του νομού Ρεθύμνης.
Βρίσκεται σε θέση 31 χιλιόμετρα περίπου, νοτιοανατολικά της πόλης του Ρεθύμνου.
Όσον αφορά στην ονομασία του κάμπου, σύμφωνα με μια εκδοχή προέρχεται από την τοπική γενική τση Γιούς ο Κάμπος, η οποία στο κρητικό ιδίωμα σημαίνει ο κάμπος της Ηούς, από την Ηώ που στην ελληνική μυθολογία ήταν η θεά της Αυγής.
Σύμφωνα με άλλη εκδοχή, ο κάμπος έλαβε την ονομασία αυτή από τα κοπάδια αιγών που έβοσκαν εκεί από την βυζαντινή ακόμη περίοδο.
Ο Γιους Κάμπος εκτείνεται σε μια έκταση περίπου 2,5 τετραγωνικών χιλιομέτρων με μέσο υψόμετρο 750 μέτρων.
Αυτό το μικρό οροπέδιο είναι τόσο σπουδαίο όσο ελάχιστα άλλα μέρη της Κρήτης, είναι η τεράστια οικολογική του σημασία, γνωστό για την εξαιρετικά πλούσια χλωρίδα του, η οποία περιλαμβάνει αρκετά ενδημικά φυτά.
Ειδικότερα, η κόκκινη άγρια τουλίπα Tulipa doerfleri, οι οποίες την άνοιξη δημιουργούν ένα κατακόκκινο χαλί, το είδος μάλιστα έχει ανακηρυχτεί προστατευόμενο με προεδρικό διάταγμα από το 1981, καθώς εντοπίζεται παγκοσμίως μόνο στον Κάμπο της Ηούς.
Πάνω από πέντε είδη ορχιδέας μπορεί να συνυπάρχουν σε ένα τετραγωνικό μέτρο σε αυτόν το σημαντικό βιότοπο του Ρεθύμνου.
Παράλληλα, εντοπίζονται διάφορα είδη δέντρων όπως πλάτανοι και έλατα καθώς και σπάνια είδη ορχιδέας, που προσελκύουν κάθε χρόνο δεκάδες βιολόγους από όλη την Ευρώπη.
Το οροπέδιο είναι εξαιρετικά εύφορο καθώς παράγει δημητριακά όλων των ειδών, άνυδρα κηπευτικά, γνωστά για τη νοστιμιά τους και περιζήτητα για τη διατροφική τους αξία, κερασιές, μηλιές, βυσσινιές, λαχανικά και καρυδιές ενώ στους βοσκότοπους του οροπεδίου σιτίζονται ευάριθμα κοπάδια αιγοπροβάτων.
Τα παλαιότερα χρόνια, ο κάμπος αποτελούσε σημαντική πηγή τροφής για τα χωριά της γύρω περιοχής, όπως το Γερακάρη, ο Κισσός, το Σπήλι, η Πατσός, κ.ά.
Στην πηγή του Άη Γιάννη με τους θεόρατους πλατάνους και το γάργαρο δροσερό νερό που βγαίνει απ' τους βράχους μπορεί να ξαποστάσει και να δροσιστεί ο επισκέπτης.
Η ομορφιά του τοπίου, ειδικά στα τέλη Μαρτίου και κατά τον Απρίλιο είναι απίστευτη!!!
 Yous Kampos Plateau is located on the northwestern slopes of Mount Kedros, between the valley of Amari and Spili in the prefecture of Rethymno.
It is located about 31 kilometers southeast of the city of Rethymnon.
As for the name of the plain, according to one version, it comes from the local general Tsi the Plain, which in the Cretan idiom means the plain of Eos, from Eos who in Greek mythology was the goddess of Dawn.
According to another version, the plain got this name from the herds of goats that grazed there since the Byzantine period.
Yous Kampos covers an area of about 2.5 square kilometers with an average altitude of 750 meters.
This small plateau is as important as few other parts of Crete, it is of great ecological importance, known for its extremely rich flora, which includes several endemic plants.
In particular, the red wild tulip Tulipa doerfleri, which in the spring create a crimson carpet, the species has even been declared protected by presidential decree since 1981, as it is found worldwide only in the Plain of Eos.
More than five species of orchid can coexist in one square meter in this important habitat of Rethymnon.
At the same time, various species of trees are identified, such as plane trees and firs, as well as rare species of orchids, which attract dozens of biologists from all over Europe every year.
The plateau is extremely fertile as it produces cereals of all kinds, anhydrous vegetables, known for their taste and sought after for their nutritional value, cherries, apples, sour cherries, vegetables and walnuts while in the pastures of the plateau are fed large numbers of goats.
In the past, the plain was an important source of food for the villages of the surrounding area, such as Gerakari, Kissos, Spili, Patsos, etc.
At the spring of Ai Giannis with the theorous plane trees and the gargling cool water that comes out of the rocks the visitor can rest and cool down.
The beauty of the landscape, especially at the end of March and during April is incredible !!!
