Well worth a visit, especially if you visit the exhibition at the white tower first which is in the town, which further puts the past of castle into context. Castle is impressive with commanding views of Thessaloniki, only part of castle is accessible to the public, including the cell block used more recently for political prisoners. There are also further ruined towers and walls in the surrounding area which truly demonstrate how extensive this castle must of been in earlier times.

Just one of the most beautiful places in Thessaloniki. Visit around magic hours, enjoy the vista's and decend to White Tower walking along the eastern wall.

Great views, nice small exhibit on the old fortress which became a prison from 1890-1990. €6 for a combination ticket to see both the fortress and the Rotunda.

A Prison, with great views. Has a small historical museum & a art gallery for local artists. Quickly place worth a visit

Beautiful view of the city and gulf. Unfortunately, on site there is very limited information about the history of the place, which is really a pitty. So do your homework in advance. There is also a lot of dirt around.

A very nice place to grab a beer and hangout with friends, gaze the stars or downtown froom the upper levels of the city. Heptapyrgion of Thessalonica used to be a fortress/prison of the Byzantine era and has many towers and views of the city citadel

A gorgeous site overlooking the city but what a waste of potential. Filled with trash in the immediate surroundings with careless staff, the expensive ticket gives you acess to barely one panorama platform. The citadel is a historical gem in itself but the visitor is offered not a SINGLE explanation about the place that is solely falling apart. Very sad to see. I hope funds will be allocated to renovate it asap.

We've visited just before covid started to spread. The outside is beautiful, but it's really worth it to pay that few euros to enter the castle. It was off season when we traveled, and the place was empty at first and they even opened the place earlier for us. The views from the top is amazing, but be advised that the stairs can be difficult to climb for people with disabillities.
