Great place for the new generation to see a sample of old Greece. Although the ticket is a bit expensive, it is worth visiting and enjoying your visit there, not only to watch things but also to understand the difficulties. At that time, the Karelia Hall was really wonderful and I would recommend it for a visit from a school or a family, as well as the whole museum. It is a very nice place.

The Archaeological Museum of Messinia is located in the historical center of Kalamata where, before the earthquake of 1986, there was the municipal market ... His exhibits are excavations of the Messinian land that reconstruct the cultural course of its inhabitants on a diachronic level, starting from prehistoric to Byzantine times.

The historic and folklore museum is housed in a magnificent mansion. Despite the stingy ticket (6 euros) it is worth a visit as it is rich in exhibits that cover various aspects of the history and urban and rural life of the place. Impressive is the hall dedicated to the Greek Revolution (with authentic costumes and weapons of the struggle) as well as the Karelia Hall which includes a collection of women's clothing around 1900.

This small collection does injustice to the rich history and folklore of Kalamata. The price of 5 euros is disproportionately high in relation to the exhibits especially if compared to the other museums in the city. In addition, especially due to the coronation, the visit time has been limited to 10 minutes (5 minutes per floor), something about which we were informed after we had paid the price. Finally, we mention that the entrance states that the maximum number of people in the museum is 6, but in the reception they informed us that they include all 3 employees, but also that even a couple of visitors, like us, are concerned about their health. employees, if the visit (with a mask of course) lasts less than 10 minutes ....

The exhibits are exceptional, and along with the girl's tour of the museum, you really travel to another era. It is recommended for the old to remember and for the young to learn.

I do not recommend this museum and not because it is not nice the colection but because of the overall experience. There is no single word in English in the museum, they only give you a brochure with only a few information inside that you can read in maximum 1 minute. They don't let you take any pictures and you have somebody watching your all the time, I felt I am having a spy behind my back. More than this they hurry me to do the visit and the lady was telling me 2 minutes, just because they had 2 more people outside that wanted to visit. It has been mentioned no more than 6 people once because of covid but even like that they didn't let the 3 of us inside, even if were 2 different floors to see. At the end I told the lady some English info would be nice a d she started to scream, when actually I was trying to tell her to work with sone universities and students to get the info translated - as are not too many anyway - but she was just saying no money. There are better museums in the town to see so you can definately skip this one. Go to Victoria museum for clothes and the Archeological museum, they give you tablets and they have soooo much info in English. Btw, the ticket is 5 euro which is a lot for what you get, a 20 minutes visit.
