Überhaupt gewinnt man in Athen den Eindruck, dass Griechenland schuldenfrei sein könnte, wenn man die Ausgaben für Graffitimalerei summiert. It's a shame that even churches and monuments are smeared with graffiti. In general, one gets the impression in Athens that Greece could be debt free if one adds up the expenditure for graffiti painting.

Παρά το μικρό μέγεθος, την απλοϊκή εξωτερική όψη και την εν γένει κακή κατάστασή του, ο Άγιος Αθανάσιος είναι ένα σημαντικό μνημείο της αθηναϊκής χριστιανικής αρχαιολογίας. Ανήκει σε έναν αρχιτεκτονικό τύπο μονόκλιτης βασιλικής που απαντάται αποκλειστικά στην Αθήνα και στην προϊσλαμική χριστιανική Περσία, από όπου πιθανώς εισήχθη στην Ελλάδα. Πλέον δεν πρέπει να λειτουργεί παρά μόνο Ίσως του Αγίου Αθανασίου ανήμερα. Σαν παιδί ερχόμουνα σχεδόν κάθε Κυριακή διότι εδώ έψελνε ο συγχωρεμένος ο θείος μου ο Στέλιος και έτσι έχω πάρα πολλές αναμνήσεις από τη συγκεκριμένη εκκλησία.. παρότι είναι τουλάχιστον χιλίων ετών, δυστυχώς είναι εντελώς παραμελημένη και αφημένη στην τύχη της. This is Agios Athanasios, a member of the Chrysoleontissi Monastery of Aegina. Despite its small size, simplistic appearance and generally poor condition, Agios Athanasios is an important monument of Athenian Christian archeology. It belongs to an architectural type of single-aisled basilica that is found exclusively in Athens and in pre-Islamic Christian Persia, from where it was probably introduced to Greece. It should no longer work except perhaps St. Athanasius' Day. As a child, I used to come almost every Sunday because my forgiven uncle Stelios used to come here and so I have a lot of memories from this particular church ... even though he is at least a thousand years old, unfortunately he is completely neglected and left to its fate.
