★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An 11th century Byzantine Orthodox Church. It is the largest medieval building in Athens. In the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, it was the main church of a monastery. In 1780, when the Ottoman ruler of the city, was building defensive walls around Athens, all the minor buildings of the monastery were destroyed. Highly recommended place to visit.
