Wunderschön. :-) Wir waren während einer Abendandacht dort. Habe selten so etwas Schönes erlebt. Sehr ruhig und andächtig. Wir waren die einzigen Touristen. Christliches Leben in Athen in Reinform. Bezaubernd. / Very, very beautiful. We were attracted by the church bells and entered while there was an evening service. It was enchanting. We were the only tourists there and I got the impression that I experienced the true everyday christian life of the Athenians. A lovely place.

Imagine a district where 2-storey bay houses are lined up along long thin streets. And colorful flowers hanging from the windows of those houses and flowerpots standing in front of the doors. Located in the middle of Syntagma Square and Monastiraki Square, right on the outskirts of the Acropolis, Plaka is one of the touristic places of the city, and it is a district frequently visited by local people. You can spend a pleasant day in Plaka with taverns on the long thin street, cafes on the right and left pathways. If you want to eat something during the evening afternoon, I recommend SHOLARHIO RESTAURANT. You can sip your space at the tables on the sidewalk with beautiful appetizers and enjoy watching the passersby. Another restaurant recommendation is O GEROS TOU MORIA. I recommend this place for dinner. You can enjoy a very greek evening with local songs accompanied by live music. The street you see above is located in the middle of Plaka, right next to Adrianou street. There are cafes left and right from the beginning of the street to the top. It is so crowded that you can often witness that people sit on the stairs. If you have time and have the opportunity to see this place, I recommend the café named GİASEMİ. With the desserts they make special for each day, the pleasure of coffee will be separate.

Saint Demetrius is a small church that doesn't catch the eye. Yet it played a vital role during the Greek revolution. Athanasios Diakos, a military commander of the Greek Revolution back in 1821 stepped in these same stoneplates with a secret/sworn mission. We was later to pay with his life for not converting to a muslim Turk. The Church to this day conveys an unparalleled spiritual atmosphere. On sunny sundays, after the service, coffee and bread are offered to those who paid a visit, irrespective of religious dogma.
