Ο Άγιος Νεκτάριος ή Νεκτάριος Πενταπόλεως ή Νεκτάριος Αιγίνης, κατά κόσμον Αναστάσιος Κεφαλάς, γεννήθηκε 1 Οκτωβρίου 1846 στη Σηλυβρία της Ανατολικής Θράκης και εκοιμήθη στις 9 Νοεμβρίου 1920, στο Αρεταίειο νοσοκομείο Αθηνών όπου νοσηλευόταν.
Η εκκλησία μας τιμά την στις 9 Νοεμβρίου, εορτάζεται ιδιαίτερα στην Αίγινα, που είναι και προστάτης του νησιού, όπου κάθε χρόνο πολλοί είναι οι πιστοί που καταφθάνουν στην εορτή του, από όλη την επικράτεια, για να προσκυνήσουν τον τάφο του, ένα από τα σημαντικότερα προσκυνήματα της ορθοδοξίας.
Ο Άγιος συνέθεσε τον ύμνο "Αγνή Παρθένε Δέσποινα", ο οποίος θεωρείται από τους πιο κατανυκτικούς της ορθοδοξίας.
Η παράδοση θέλει την Παναγία να εμφανίζεται ενώπιον του Αγίου Νεκταρίου στο μοναστήρι της Αίγινας, και να του ζητάει να καταγράψει σε χαρτί τον ύμνο.

Agios Nektarios or Nektarios of Pentapoleos or Nektarios of Aegina, known as Anastasios Kefalas, was born on October 1, 1846 in Silivria, Eastern Thrace and died on November 9, 1920, at the Aretaio hospital in Athens, where he was hospitalized.
