Σύμφωνα με τη γραπτή κτιτορική επιγραφή, η οποία σώζεται επάνω από τη νότια θύρα ο ναός οικοδομήθηκε και ιστορήθηκε το 1793 με έξοδα του προεστού της πόλεως Ιωαννίνων και Ζαγορίου Ιωαννούτζου Αλεξίου Καραμεσίνη. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι το κείμενο είναι ορθογραφημένο και σε λόγιο ύφος. Σύμφωνα με την ίδια επιγραφή οι τοιχογραφίες και οι φορητές εικόνες στο τέμπλο και στα προσκυνητάρια είναι έργα των Καπεσοβιτών ζωγράφων Ιωάννη του Αθανασίου και του γιου του Αναστασίου Αναγνώστη. Οι τοιχογραφίες χωρίζονται σε τέσσερις ζώνες. Στη χαμηλότερη εικονίζονται ολόσωμοι άγιοι, στη δεύτερη άγιοι σε στηθάρια που περιβάλλονται από κληματίδες και στις δύο ανώτερες ευαγγελικές σκηνές. Το δυτικό τοίχο καταλαμβάνουν σκηνές από βίους των αγίων. Στο δυτικό άκρο του βορείου τοίχου εικονίζεται ο χορηγός Ιωαννούτζος του Αλεξίου, τον οποίο ευλογεί ο άγιος Νικόλαος, στηθαίος μέσα σε νεφέλη. Ο άγιος κρατεί στο αριστερό χέρι ειλητάριο με την επιγραφή ούτος ο περιφανής ανήρ εστι κτίτωρ του θείου αυτού ναού. Το τέμπλο, ο άμβωνας, ο επισκοπικός θρόνος, είναι ξυλόγλυπτα. Φέρουν επίχρυσες λεπτομέρειες και διακοσμούνται με ζωικά και φυτικά θέματα σε διάτρητη τεχνική. Στις δεσποτικές εικόνες μαρτυρείται η χρονολογία 1789, στοιχείο που υποδεικνύει ότι αυτό το έτος ξεκίνησε η ανέγερση του ναού. The frescoes are divided into four zones. The lower depicts full-body saints, the second saints on posts surrounded by vines and in the two upper evangelical scenes. The west wall is filled with scenes of saints' lives. At the west end of the north wall is depicted the donor Ioannoutzios Alexios, who is blessed by Saint Nicholas, a statue in a cloud. The saint holds in his left hand a scroll with the inscription of this prominent man the builder of this divine temple. The iconostasis, the pulpit, the bishop's throne, are wood carvings. They have gilded details and are decorated with perforated animal and plant themes. The despicable images bear witness to the 1789 date, which indicates that the construction of the temple began this year.
