Beautiful monastery. The Monastery of Zoodochou Pigi or Agia is the largest monastery in Andros. It stands imposing as a fortress in an area between Gavrio and Batsi, just 7 km from the main port of the island. The construction time has not been determined. According to Dionysios, who came from Andros and was the metropolitan of Xanthi, there was a Byzantine school in the area and that in 842 it was established as a monastery. The first official date is 1325, a time confirmed by a silver image and a document bearing dates. Its church, Byzantine style with wood-carved iconostasis and painted decoration dates back to the post-Byzantine period. Wir waren ein wenig enttäuscht vom größten, aber nicht unbedingt sehenswerten Kloster. The monastery is closed from 2pm to 4pm. At the front door you have to ring the bell, followed by a short tour of a nun. We were a little disappointed by the largest, but not necessarily worth seeing monastery.

Την εποχή της ακμής της (17ος- 18ος αι.)ήταν ανδρικό μοναστήρι με πολλούς μοναχούς. Σήμερα είναι γυναικείο με δύο απόμαχες μοναχές. Ο επισκέπτης διακρίνει μιά κάποια εικόνα παραμέλησης.
