★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kafeon to Smari is as authentic as it gets--both in terms of cuisine and the Cretan family experience, as it's owned and operated by a husband and wife and their family. The location is perfect, being situated on a block that's on the outskirts of the bustling city centre, and sitting outside is not only peaceful, but also gives you a gorgeous view of the illuminated city wall. The food is nothing short of amazing. The menu changes by the day, as everything is made fresh and family style, offering the best in flavour and authenticity. Top it off with extremely reasonable pricing, and it's the perfect Cretan dining experience.
Cash only. Very limited English but fluent body and sign language. :)

Great and super cheap food from Crete!
Waiters are kind and smiling all the time.
We paid 25€ for mushrooms, grilled meat, goat cheese, stuffed cod and we got for free some fruits, traditional sweets and a Cretan liquor.
