Amazing place on the impressive promontory. Definitely worth visiting. There were no people and strong winds. Quite a feeling.

Great old byzantine castle and few houses around, nice view....

Shame to Kytherians that do not promote this place. It is written nowhere, and there is no sign in the road. We found it by luck and it was probably the best sight of the island. A whole castle city left abandoned. Plus, I fell in love with this cat that followed me through all the village.

Not to be confused with Chora Castle (the Venetian Castle at Kythera Chora), Kata Chora Castle is near Mylopotamos. The Kata Chora fortress is an extensive medieval settlement with about 9 churches and some 50 houses within the fortress, all in ruin but in surprising good condition given the age. Built on a rock platform jutting over a dramatic gorge with church walls serving as the outer wall of the fortress. Wonderful examples of construction and design. Wandering here is a must, atmosphere in abundance with a must see view of the sunset.

So fun and cool, still can vaguely see painted saints on the wall of two structures. The view is incredible too.

Unbelievable experience of a Venetian Castle ? in the middle of Kythera. Beautiful but derelict, immaculate views and nice vibes. Must see.

The caslte of Kato Chora (Κάτω Χώρα) or Castle of Mylopotamos was one of the most interesting surprises we had when we visited Kythira. We did visit the venue merely by chance, but were amazed by the wonderful location. It is pretty much like time stood still at this perfect castle, with the ruins revealing the majestic magnitude of the site. Unfortunately all the churches at the catsle were locked and you good not visit the interior. Overall, local authorities or the Ministry of Culture should pay more attention in preserving the castle, as it seems rather abandoned. Definitely do visit the castle.

Unexpected. A medieval fortified settlement from the byzantine era to the venetian times. You can see the walls, churches, houses in a very decent preservation degree. Still needs restorations.
