★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing! Probably around 40m in height and long enough to bring the water from the mountain to the city and still blends in with the 2020 town’s life... Romans did it even if I believe there were Venetians who actually did it

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kavala Aqueduct is definetelly the most characteristic monument of Kavala and it is known also by the name “Kamares” (Arches).
While the original aqueduct is of Roman origin, the present structure is attributed to Ibrahim Pasha (the vezir of Sultan Suleiman)and it was built in 1520-1530, a period during which many infrastructure works were carried out in Kavala.
The lenght of the aquaduct is 270 m and its maximum height is 25 m.
This old aqueduct supplied water to the town of Kavala until the early decades of the 20th century. The aquaduct is no longer of vital importance, but it maintain its beauty and is a landmark of the town.
Bottom line: don't miss this beautiful spot, although it's not easy to find parking beside.
