Ενδείξεις χρήσης υπάρχουν από την νεολιθική εποχή, ενώ οι πρώτες διαμορφώσεις χρονολογούνται στους γεωμετρικούς και τους αρχαϊκούς χρόνους. Κατά τον 2ο αι. π.Χ. περιλάμβανε έξι θαλάμους που παρείχαν πρόσβαση σε τρεις λεκάνες άντλησης. Αυτές τροφοδοτούνταν από τέσσερις τεράστιες δεξαμενές. Την πρώιμη ρωμαϊκή περίοδο κατασκευάστηκε η πρόσοψή της με δωρικούς ημικίονες που πλαισίωναν τα τοξωτά ανοίγματα μπροστά από τους παλιούς θαλάμους. Λίγο αργότερα ψηλοί τοίχοι περιέβαλαν ορθογώνια αυλή στην βόρεια πλευρά της κρήνης. Στο κέντρο της αυλής διαμορφώθηκε σε χαμηλότερο επίπεδο η Ύπαιθρος Κρήνη, που τροφοδοτούνταν από μεγάλους αγωγούς κάτω από το δάπεδο της αυλής. Περί το τέλος του 4ου αιώνα μ.Χ. κατασκευάστηκε το τρίκογχο κτίσμα της αυλής και αργότερα προστέθηκαν μαρμάρινοι κίονες και διακοσμητικά επιστύλια μπροστά από την πρόσοψη. Στους βυζαντινούς χρόνους κτίστηκε μικρός ναός στη νοτιοδυτική γωνία της αυλής, η οποία σταδιακά επιχώθηκε και χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως χώρος ταφής. #Peirene #Fountain #Nymph #Corinth #Corinthia The Fountain of the Pyrenees in ancient Corinth The monument owes its name according to the legend to the nymph Pyrenees, while a second myth connects it with Pegasus. During the 2nd c. e.g. included six chambers providing access to three pumping basins. These were powered by four huge tanks. In the early Roman period, its facade was built with Doric half-columns that framed the arched openings in front of the old chambers. A little later, high walls surrounded a rectangular courtyard on the north side of the fountain. In the center of the courtyard, the Countryside Fountain was formed at a lower level, which was fed by large pipes under the floor of the courtyard. Around the end of the 4th century AD. The triangular building of the courtyard was built and later marble columns and decorative entablatures were added in front of the facade. In Byzantine times a small church was built in the southwest corner of the courtyard, which was gradually embanked and used as a burial site.

Μην το κανετε καλοκαιρι.Το μνημειο σε αρκετα καλη κατασταση! Beautiful route until you reach the destination, although tedious for beginners and children, on uphill and eroded dirt roads.
