We were very lucky to get tickets to watch an opera performance here- to be part of history- so special!

The little theater of the ancient city of Epidaurus is a small size theater (800 seats), located at the archaeological site of Epidaurus, 10 km northeast to its "big brother", the big Amphitheater of Epidauros, and 500 m from village Palaia Epidavros. The theater was covered with soil for many years until it was discovered about fifty years ago, in the 70s. The archaeological excavations were conducted at the site under the guidance of the famous Greek archaeologist, Evangelia Deilaki who was an urban planner and the director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida. The excavations were resumed in the 90s and have been accompanied by reconstruction and site promotion activities of the Committee for the Conservation of the Monuments of Epidaurus (CCME), works that have revealed the theater in its Roman form and take place till nowadays. In recent years the theater has returned to use (under tight restrictions) and it occasionally hosts performances as part of the Epidaurus festival.

History has never been more alive than when you're able to walk in the old structures that are 2,500 years old old. The theatre here is one of the most amazing ones that I have visited and the acoustics are still today really amazing. It's only a short drive from Athens so if you're visiting Athens and have a spare day, you should definitely make this a visit, and why not also make a visit to Nafplio, the old capital of the first Hellenic Republic.

Still closed. You can still look at it from the outside, tho. Beautiful views over the town. Surroundings smell of citrus. Worth checking out.

A small but so beautiful ancient Greek theatre, unfortunately it was closed to get into but u could see everything behind the fences. This was my second time there .The first was some years ago,it was opened and I remember that I had sat at the small yard in front of the house looking the theatre, there was in the past a big palm tree but not any more .Dont miss this place!!! This site was unfortunately closed to the public (our skipper said it had been for some time). So we had to look from outside the fence and there was a lot of scaffolding and modern coverings detracting from what could be seen. However, I did send my drone inside to get some pics from an actual ancient Greek Amphitheater. There was not much to see but the village has great outside night cafes and local food.
