Imposing Venetian fortification that took its name from Gabriele Tadino known as Il Martinengo both for being born in the homonymous Bergamo city, and for having been part of the Martinengo family, present in Brescia, Bergamo and Venice.
Gabriel was sent here by the Serenissima for its own as a military engineer who had deepened his studies to cope with the advent of powerful new artillery that he knew so much that he was called before the Rhodes besieged by Suleiman and then the Habsburg court of Charles V emperor.
The grandeur of the building has allowed us to overcome the centuries of Turkish domination and to be handed down almost intact to our days. The town of Martinengo (BG) dedicated the main street to him.
