★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο Ιωάννης Βελισσαρίου ( Πλοέστι Ρουμανίας, 26 Νοεμβρίου 1861 - Κρέσνα, 12 Ιουλίου 1913) ήταν αξιωματικός του Ελληνικού Στρατού, ήρωας των Βαλκανικών Πολέμων. Διακρίθηκε ιδιαίτερα στη Μάχη του Μπιζανίου όπου η ελληνική νίκη οφείλεται στην αποφασιστικότητά του, αναγκάζοντας τον οθωμανικό στρατό να παραδοθεί άνευ όρων. Ο Βελισσαρίου αναδείχθηκε σε μια από τις σημαντικότερες φυσιογνωμίες της Στρατιωτικής Ιστορίας της νεότερης Ελλάδας.[1] Σκοτώθηκε στη Μάχη της Κρέσνας τις τελευταίες ημέρες του Β΄ Βαλκανικού Πολέμου.
 Ioannis Velissariou (Ploiesti of Romania, November 26, 1861 - Kresna, July 12, 1913) was an officer of the Greek Army, a hero of the Balkan Wars. He was particularly distinguished in the Battle of Byzantium where the Greek victory was due to his determination, forcing the Ottoman army to surrender unconditionally. Velissariou became one of the most important figures in the military history of modern Greece. [1] He was killed in the Battle of Kresna during the last days of the Second Balkan War.
