One of the few places in Greece where a medieval town has been preserved to the present day. Substantial restoration works have been conducted over the past decade (since the last time I paid a visit there), adding even more value to the experience. A very-must-see place.

Wow!! It's a lovely place. Completely preserved, with amazing view at the sea. The castle on the top let's you understand the old city. Despite all the above it's extremely touristic with no people living there

This old fortress was once a flourishing trade hub for ships and was well defended. Now the lower city still holds that ambiance. Walk to the upper city is recommended to view the lower city. Caution the trail is some what slippery.

Been a lot of time to this unique and special place. Its definitly worth the 4 hours from Athens. It's not huge but surely you have to stay atleast 1 night or more to explore entilerly the upper castle and all the place inside the fortress.

Loved Monemvasia. Unique experience as you walk through the small passageways that transform into a magical glimpse of an ancient castle from centuries ago.

Nice historical place for a hike, but mind that at this place you are paying for the view not food or anything else. Prices will be higher and they has a lot of problems with food. No milk for coffee or anything else, bad customer service, rude locals at the shops etc. On the other hand, nice place to hike and visit for one day. Nothing more.

Visiting Monemvasia was a short visit. A beautiful small island. We entered by sea to the port. We immediately headed for the old city and fort. It was a pleasant walk on the causeway to there. Shops, restaurants and great photo opportunities.

This is a fantastic place to explore! You really need a full day or better still two half days to stroll around the preserved old lower town then check out the ruins of the upper town. Worth making a detour to see! Best of all, it's free!!
